With its vast forests, majestic mountains, and pristine rivers, Siberia offers a visual feast for nature lovers. From the mighty Yenisei River to the tranquil Lake Baikal, each waterway has its own unique charm. Picture yourself kayaking through dense forests, with sunlight gently filtering through the trees, as you navigate through calm waters.

The stunning landscapes, untouched by human intervention, will leave you awe-inspired at every turn. Siberia's beauty is truly a sight to behold.

2. Thrilling Rapids

For those seeking an adrenaline rush, Siberia's rivers provide an exhilarating kayaking experience. The turbulent rapids of the Sayan Oka River and the Katun River offer a challenge for even the most experienced kayakers.

Navigate through the rapids, tackle the roaring waves, and feel the rush of adrenaline as you conquer each rapid. It's an opportunity to test your skills and experience the sheer power of nature.

3. Unique Wildlife Encounters

Siberia is home to a wide array of wildlife species, some of which are found nowhere else in the world. As you kayak through the remote rivers and lakes, keep an eye out for Siberian tigers, brown bears, reindeer, and many other fascinating creatures.

Imagine the thrill of coming face-to-face with a rare Siberian tiger or spotting a majestic brown bear fishing in the river. These encounters will create memories that last a lifetime.

Planning Your Kayak Adventure

Embarking on a kayak adventure in Siberia requires careful planning and preparation. Here are a few essential tips to ensure a safe and unforgettable experience:

1. Choose the Right Season

Siberia experiences extreme climatic conditions, with freezing winters and hot summers. The best time for kayaking is during the summer months, from June to September, when the weather is moderate and the water levels are suitable for navigation.

2. Pack the Essentials

When venturing into the wilderness, it's crucial to be well-prepared. Pack lightweight, waterproof clothing, a reliable kayak, camping gear, first aid supplies, and sufficient food and water. It's also essential to obtain all necessary permits and inform someone about your itinerary.

3. Join a Guided Tour

If you're new to kayaking or unfamiliar with the area, it's highly recommended to join a guided tour. Experienced guides will ensure your safety, provide valuable insights about the region, and help you make the most of your adventure. They also have extensive knowledge about the local wildlife, enabling you to spot rare animals along the way.

4. Respect Nature

While exploring the Siberian wilderness, it's vital to minimize your impact on the environment. Follow the principles of Leave No Trace, respect wildlife habitats, and avoid disturbing the natural ecosystem. By practicing sustainable tourism, you contribute to the preservation of Siberia's pristine beauty for future generations.

A kayak adventure in Siberia promises an unparalleled journey into the heart of nature. Whether you're seeking thrilling rapids, breathtaking landscapes, or unique wildlife encounters, Siberia's waterways have it all.

So, gear up, plan your trip, and get ready to embark on a life-changing adventure. Let the pristine rivers and untouched wilderness of Siberia be your playground as you paddle through this extraordinary region.

Discover the beauty of Siberia from a whole new perspective – from the seat of your kayak!

This eBook is a narrative about a 1,250-mile long solo kayak adventure on the 1-mile deep Lake Baikal in East Siberia, Russia. The clash of different cultures (Russians, Evenks, Buryats) and the wonders of a not always safe unique and pristine nature with hungry bugging bears, extreme climate, ‘Russian improvisation' pushed this experience to the limit for man and equipment.
(The adventures can be seen on his YouTube Channel 1life4outdoor.)

Not everyone dares to realize a life off the beaten track in an increasingly uncertain world and to actually fulfill ones dreams. Henschel is one who has been practicing this for tens of years without fear – ‘well almost, to know what exists beyond the horizon before the Grim Reaper comes,' as he says himself. He is able to implement his minimalist plans into great and brilliant adventures. In this special case: 62 days alone in a kayak on the eastern Siberian Lake Baikal. This deepest lake in the world (1,642 m) is located north of Mongolia with a coastline of 2,000 kilometers and is not necessarily a safe area due to its inhabitants and wildlife.
The clash of different cultures, the complications that come with it, such as constant encounters with hungry bears, the Russian mafia and the natives like Evenks and Buryats made it a real ordeal 24/7 for him. But the unique landscape, his discovery of the ‘soul' of the Baikal, which is called ‘Fountain of the Earth' by the natives together with the physical sensation of his surroundings 'while sliding around the lake with my butt on its surface' was the reward:
Henschel tells of it – self-critical, honest, ironic and awesome to his environment. Once started, reading this book fascinates, it wakes you longing to realize your own dreams and see this fascinating part of the earth with your own eyes.
